Praying Mantis and Self Sabotage

Cotton clouds in the sky,
sun peeping warmth,
out walking, predator and I
sucking in the dregs of autumn…

Camouflage can be self defeating
for a praying mantis.
it’s thorax and wings
colour of a muddy ambulatory path

Visceral; my heart breaks
partially spilled gut, still alive
I pry it free to a grassy wake
We both pray for death…
